Kolkata Rape (Social Media)
National News: The capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata, is once again making headlines for disturbing reasons. A shocking incident has come to light involving the alleged rape of a student at the boys' hostel of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kolkata.
According to Bengal Police, the accused has confessed that he mixed sleeping pills into the woman’s cold drink. He allegedly purchased the pills from a nearby medical store before administering them. Despite this confession, many key details surrounding the case remain unclear.
Authorities have noted inconsistencies in the statements given by both the accused and the victim. While the accused admitted to drugging the cold drink, he has not disclosed the motive behind his actions. When questioned further, he chose to remain silent.
Preliminary findings suggest that after consuming the drugged beverage, the woman went to a room inside the boys’ hostel, where the alleged assault occurred. The police say that after committing the act, the accused immediately informed one of his friends about what had happened.
The police have also raised concerns regarding the victim’s identity. She has claimed to be a psychologist but has not provided any academic credentials or the name of the institution from where she received her education. This has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
In a surprising development, the victim’s father has denied that his daughter was raped. He alleged that the police coerced his daughter into filing the case. According to him, she had merely fainted after falling from a rickshaw. However, police are also examining whether the father changed his statement under external pressure.
To get to the bottom of the matter, the police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising eight members. The team is now working on gathering all relevant evidence and testimonies to determine the truth.
